How do you teach the fruit of the Spirit to kids?

Teach the fruit of the Spirit to kids one fruit at a time, for a week at a time, tied to a real moment at home. Read Galatians 5:22–23 together, pick the fruit your family needs most this week, practise it in one small daily activity, and talk about it at dinner. Name it out loud when you see it.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.Galatians 5:22–23, WEB

One fruit, one week, one real moment: that is the whole method.

Honest limits first

You are teaching by example first and by activity second.

The nine fruit in kid words

LoveCaring about someone even when it costs you.
JoyBeing glad about God, not only about getting your way.
PeaceCalm inside, even when things are loud.
PatienceWaiting without being mean about it.
KindnessDoing something nice nobody asked for.
GoodnessDoing the right thing when no one is watching.
FaithfulnessKeeping your promises, even small ones.
GentlenessUsing soft words and soft hands.
Self-controlStopping before you do the thing you'll regret.

These are our plain-word summaries for children. The World English Bible translates the seventh fruit as “faith”; many translations say “faithfulness.”

Fruit of the Spirit for kids FAQ

What age can kids learn the fruit of the Spirit?

Children as young as 4 can learn the names of the nine fruit and practise simple ones like kindness and patience. From about 8, kids can start spotting the fruit in stories and in their own choices. Teens can handle harder ones like self-control online.

Which fruit should we start with?

Start with the fruit your home needs most this week, not with love just because it comes first. If siblings are fighting, start with gentleness or patience. The three questions above choose one for you.

How do I explain that the fruit comes from the Spirit, not from trying hard?

Try a garden picture: a gardener waters and weeds, but the fruit grows because the plant is alive. We practise, pray and ask God for help, and he grows the fruit in us over time.

Is Ninefruit safe for kids to use?

Ninefruit is rated 4+ on the App Store, has no account, no ads and no tracking, and works offline. Family Mode asks for a grown-up before purchases or web links. The journal stays on the phone.
