What does the Bible say about temptation?
The Bible says temptation is common to every man, that God never tempts anyone, and that God always provides a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13; James 1:13). Jesus answered each temptation in Matthew 4 by quoting Scripture, and Joseph simply ran (Genesis 39:12). The pattern is: know the verse, plan the exit, move fast.
That last part matters. James 1:14–15 describes temptation as a process: a man is “drawn away by his own lust and enticed,” and only then does it “conceive.” The earlier you interrupt it, the easier the exit.
Know the verse, plan the exit, move fast.
Who this page is not for
- Men caught in a compulsion they cannot stop alone. If drinking, gambling or pornography has taken over, a verse card is not enough. Call SAMHSA's free, confidential National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357, open 24 hours a day, and tell your pastor or a trusted friend this week.
- Anyone in danger right now. In the US, call or text 988, or call 911.
- Men looking for a filter or blocker. FORGED does not block websites or apps. It is a daily Bible routine; pair it with a content filter if you need one.
Verses steady a man; they do not replace help.
How FORGED trains this in 3 stops
A tour of the real app, with our marker notes on the App Store screenshots.

Hide the Word before the fight
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” FORGED gives you one passage a day, quoted from the World English Bible with a plain-English explanation and one action.

Practice stillness on calm days
Jesus told his disciples, “Watch and pray, that you don’t enter into temptation” (Matthew 26:41). The prayer timer runs 3, 5 or 10 minutes and dims the screen to a single ember, with no sounds or scores.

Fall, get up, keep your stones
Missed days never erase what you have earned. Inside the app, the free What Do You Need? section has short Scripture-based protocols for difficult moments, and Words for the Fight can send optional Scripture reminders, with quiet hours.
Daily reading makes the verse available when the moment comes.
Make your way-of-escape card
Psychologists call a plan like this an implementation intention: “If X happens, then I will do Y.” A 2025 meta-analysis of 642 tests by Sheeran, Listrom and Gollwitzer in the European Review of Social Psychology found these plans helped, and worked better when written in if-then form and rehearsed. So: pick two things, then read your card out loud once.
My way of escape
If I fall: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9, WEB. Then I tell one brother within 24 hours.
Write the exit down while you are calm.
Bible verses for men struggling with temptation
Grouped by temptation. All verses are from the World English Bible, a public-domain modern translation.
Any temptation
1 Corinthians 10:13No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
James 4:7Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Hebrews 4:15For we don’t have a high priest who can’t be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin.
Lust and pornography
Job 31:1I made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?
2 Timothy 2:22Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Psalm 101:3I will set no vile thing before my eyes.
Anger
James 1:19–20So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
Proverbs 16:32One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.
Drinking
Ephesians 5:18Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
Proverbs 20:1Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
Money and greed
Hebrews 13:5Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.”
1 Timothy 6:9But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction.
Scrolling and wasted hours
Psalm 119:37Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.
Ephesians 5:15–16Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Wanting to give up
Proverbs 24:16for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again,
Galatians 5:16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Honest limits
- A card is a plan, not a cure. The research on if-then plans shows real but moderate effects. Pair the card with a brother who asks you about it.
- The verse list is short on purpose. Sixteen verses you can learn beat 160 you will scroll past. If you want more, read the whole chapter around any one of these.
- FORGED is not a recovery program. It is a 90-day Bible plan and devotional for men, about ten minutes a day. Day 1, Bible Basics, Bible Words and the What Do You Need? protocols are free; Days 2 to 90 are Premium.
One design decision we made on purpose: FORGED quotes every verse word for word from the World English Bible and always shows its own commentary separately, so you know which words are Scripture and which are ours.
Scripture, a plan and a brother: you need all three.
