Your first month, verse by verse

These are the moments that make a new job hard, dated from your first day. Change the date or the worry at the top and the whole month updates. Print it, or add it to your phone's calendar so each verse shows up when you need it.

A new job is a dozen small first moments, and each one can have its own verse.

What Bible verse is good for a new job?

Joshua 1:9 is the verse most people reach for when starting a new job, because it was spoken to a man stepping into a role he hadn't held before: "Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”" For the work itself, Colossians 3:23–24 says to work heartily, as for the Lord. For nerves, Philippians 4:6–7.

New jobs are more common than they feel. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that people born from 1957 to 1964 held an average of 12.7 jobs from ages 18 to 56 (BLS, January 2024), and median tenure with a current employer was 4.1 years in January 2026 (BLS, September 2026). Most working adults will walk into a building full of strangers many times. You are not unusual for being nervous.

Lists of "Bible verses for a new job" usually give you twenty verses at once. We think the better question is which verse, when. Fear the night before needs a different word than restlessness on day 21.

Joshua 1:9 for the door, Colossians 3:23 for the desk, Philippians 4:6–7 for the nerves.

    Questions people ask

What should I pray before starting a new job?

Keep it short and honest: thank God for the job, name the fear, and ask for one thing for day one, such as wisdom, courage or kindness toward your new coworkers. James 1:5 promises wisdom to anyone who asks.

Is it okay to be anxious about a new job as a Christian?

Yes. Nerves are normal, and Scripture speaks to them instead of shaming them. Philippians 4:6–7 invites you to bring every worry to God in prayer, with thanksgiving, and promises peace that guards your heart.

What verse is good for a first day at work?

Joshua 1:9 is a strong first-day verse: be strong and courageous, because the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Read it before you leave the car or the train.

How do I handle mistakes in my first weeks?

Own them quickly, fix what you can, and ask how to do it next time. Lamentations 3:22–23 is a good verse for the evening after: God's mercies are new every morning.

    Day three, sketched

This is an illustration, not a testimonial. It's Wednesday of week one. She has eleven browser tabs open, four new passwords and a manager who says "you'll pick it up" a lot. At 12:15 her calendar pings: Isaiah 41:10. "I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you."

She eats lunch outside instead of at her desk. She writes down the three things she doesn't understand yet, and asks about one of them at 2:00. That's the whole win for the day. It's enough.
